Scanned PDFs

A scanned PDF is a set of page images. We first try to slim the file without touching the pages. If it's still too big, each page is redrawn at a lower resolution and saved with stronger JPG compression, searching for the best quality that fits your limit.

PDFs with real text

A PDF made on a computer, with text you can select, is usually small already. If it still doesn't fit, we ask before turning its pages into images: the text stays readable but can no longer be selected or searched.

Password-protected PDFs

Encrypted PDFs can't be compressed. Open the file, print or save it as a new PDF without a password, and try again.

FAQ

How do I make a PDF smaller than 100 KB?

Drop it above. Scanned pages are re-encoded at a lower resolution and quality until the whole file is 100 KB or less. You see the result and page count before downloading.

Can every PDF reach 100 KB?

Most scanned documents of a few pages can. A long document may not fit without becoming hard to read; in that case we tell you instead of handing you an unreadable file. Uploading fewer pages helps.

Will the PDF still be readable?

Yes. Pages are never drawn below 72 DPI, where normal-sized text is still readable. If your limit can't be reached at that resolution, we tell you instead of producing an unreadable file.

Can I compress several PDFs into one?

Yes: use the Merge PDF tool, which can also apply a size limit.
